Site Preparation & Installation
To install your rain water tank, you will need to prepare a suitable area. The following guideline should help you prepare and install the site ready for your tank.
- The area in which you will install your tank must have adequate space for the tank to fit. It is advisable that your rain water tank be 10mm from any wall. Measurements of all our tanks are found on our website.
- The surface for your tank installation must be flat and constructed from a solid material such as sand, concrete or flat hard wooden planks. Make sure there are no loose stones or foreign objects as these will pierce the base as the tank fills up to capacity. If you are using sand ensure that you compact the sand to relieve any soft spots. The entire tank base should be over an area which has been prepared by you.
- Position where you want your outlet tap. Keep in mind that the outlet is situated near the base of the tank, so there can be no obstructions to access it. Once you have determined your outlet, choose the position of your overflow.
- Once your tank is in position, either tie it down or fill it with at least 200mm of water.
- Re-route your downpipes to the inlet of your rain water tanks. On modular slimline tanks, you have more than one inlet. You may choose to use as many inlets as you like, however, once the tank achieves capacity, the volume of water through the inlet(s) should be the same as the volume of water through the outlet(s). Therefore, on slimline tanks, the number of inlets should be the same as the number of outlets.
- Congratulations! You are now ready to start using your rain water tank. Be sure to use it wisely and never waste our most precious resource.
